Reviews

The bike is amazing. Very

"The bike is amazing. Very lightweight and fantastic groupset. The ONLY negative is that Vaast cheaped out on the bar tape. Less than 200 miles and it’s shredded. I’m 5’11” and the 56 frame is perfect for me."

The bike is a great

"The bike is a great value. Looks great and rides really well. The 54cm frame fits me great at 5'9". The fork steerer tube is long and has quite a few spacers to dial in the fit. The frame is fast and comfortable. Accelerates well but isn't too harsh. Nice parts spec with 11 Speed Ultegra. The finish of the bike looks really good. A couple of downsides, as others have noted the handlebar tape is a joke. Literally coming off on the first ride. I wish they wouldn't have wrapped it and saved me the trouble of undoing it. Also, the derailleurs weren't dialed in. Not a big deal if you are comfortable with doing your own adjustments. The seatpost takes a second to figure out but not sure why so many people have problems with it. Same with the seat clamp, it is a different design than what is common but it works if you pay attention setting it up. Overall, I am really pleased with the bike and the value. I would give it 5 stars but having to immediately change out the bar tape and fiddle with the derailleurs drops it one star."

great buy

"It was easy to put together. The tools were pretty good too. The instructions were a bit vague, but I have a cyclist friend that really helped me. I really love it. Shifters are responsive and the breaks stop quick. Thats helpful as sometimes stopping quick is definitely needed."

Amazing deal!

"Can't believe you can get a bike this well equipped at this price. I have the Vaast R1 Ultegra. Magnesium is amazing. Lightweight. Smooth ride quality. Rides more like carbon than alloy. Love this bike and it is a steal at this price. I bought this bike having no prior experience with a magnesium frame and I have no regrets whatsoever. I really like the black cherry color. Praxis Carbon cranks a big plus."

Kevin P. (5/5)

No Regrets!

"I took a chance having never owned or ridden magnesium before. Wow! So happy I got one of these. Fantastic ride quality. Plenty of snap. Long-ride comfort. Great fit. Such a well-equipped bike, too. Probably going to be my forever bike."

AS I started to shop

"AS I started to shop for a Road Bike to replace my ten year old Ridley Orion, mechanical Ultegra, I read the reviews of the Magnesium Ally VAAST R/1 Road Bike. After reading positive reviews, I purchased the VAAST R/1 Ultegra (mechanical) on May 6, 2025. After 4 rides total of 109 miles, I can say that I like the bike and highly recommend it. The VAAST Magnesium Alloy road bike is one pound lighter than my Ridley carbon fibre. It rides and handles great. Having mechanical Ultegra derailleurs on my Ridley, I could not settle for anything lower on the VAAST. The VAAST shifts precisely and crisply. Overall the ride is great, comfortable, smooth and forgiving on 30+mile rides with more to give in even longer rides. The CONS: 1) As sure as reviews on VAAST bikes, the handle bar tape tore and deteriorated only after the first 30 miles. Couldn't VAAST have installed more durable bar tape? 2) The semi-internal cabling is not pretty on the cockpit. Other carbon fibre road bikes of similar caliber with internal cabling systems are much better and neater looking. 3) still getting used to the wheel release system which is different from the flip lever style. To conclude, I have no regrets purchasing the VAAST R/1. I will enjoy riding it and putting more miles. Good riding all!!!"

I bought this bike to

"I bought this bike to see how a magnesium frame rides. I have ridden and raced all of the other frame materials in the past. I was pleasantly surprised by how smooth the ride is and how comfortable it feels. I have only had time to do a couple of 30 mile rides, but I love everything about it so far. The Ultegra groupset is great. Quick, easy and smooth shifting. The disc brakes are powerful and easy to modulate. The Prologo saddle is pretty comfortable as well. I had to swap out the stem because the stock one is just a bit too short for me. There is only one drawback however, the bar tape is very cheap. It started to fall apart in the middle of my 1st ride. I read in other reviews that this is a common complaint. Other than that this is a great deal for a great ride! Glad I made the move to buy it."

Michael M. (5/5)

This is a really light

"This is a really light bicycle and the ride is amazing. I took it out with two friends who normally can keep up but on this bike I am 2-5% faster. The components are really great. I just could not go without cable operation and the cable ultegra is amazing. Really well thought out bike. The tires and wheels roll well too, almost no high end vibration. Loving it."

BIke came to me in

"BIke came to me in excellent condition. I wasn't sure what all those extra pieces in the bag were for. Overall, installation was pretty easy and the bike rode very well. I was a little disappointed that the bike did not come tuned up. I'm not a bike expert, but I watched enough youtube videos to do an decent initial tune up of the bike. As I try to compare it to my 2006 road bike, I'm not sure if it's any faster which was a little disappointing given new R8000 ultegra parts, perhaps it's because the bike isn't professionally tuned. I do like the bike geometry and aero bars a lot. Makes riding more comfortable."

Q&A

what bike size is recommended if I am 5' 7" tall ? any other measurements needed? I prefer riding upright.
I feel that if you want a more upright position, the 52cm would bring your hands in closer to your body to give you that feel. The medium might stretch you out a bit and make your position drop downard a bit. But that’s just my opinion...
How long is this sale? What size is recommended for 6'? Note recommended is 180 cm but ordering says 54cm?
If you're 6' tall, depending on your leg length, I would look at getting the 58cm. I'm 5'11" but have shorter legs and longer torso so I bought the 56cm and if fits me perfectly.
Hi, for a 5'6'' and 28.5'' inseam, the manufacturer's online sizing tool suggest XS. But the geometry chart recommend a size S. What would you recommend?
I recommend you buy another bike. This bike has a poor design for the seat post. It slips badly and when not slipping it creaks. I can not return the bike to Cambria because I rode it some and Vaast refuses to answer any of my messages. Seems I have wasted my money.
Are assembly instructions included? how hard is it to assemble this bike? I have never assembled a bike before.
This bike comes pretty well packaged and partially assembled. You will need to install the handlebars and wheels. Plus the stem and seat post.. You don't need to do any of the hard stuff like install brakes or derailleurs. The seatpost is tricky on this bike. Changing seats is the only thing I don't like about this bike. If I could id buy another one of these, it's a sweet ride for the price. And yes, instructions are included and even comes with a miniature tool kit for putting it together
What size would the manufacturer recommend for a 5'8 rider, 145 pounds and 29 inch inseam? Thanks.
I am 5'10 and ride the extra large very well...For the above question, I would opt for the large...
