Very nice componentry and rides

"Very nice componentry and rides beautifully. The weight is not a problem for me and my family. Tolerances were off a little on the front rack making it VERY difficult to install. (I had to use a C-clamp to bend the bars just enough to get the bolt through). The sizing on the Planet Cyclery web site was wrong for this bike. The manufacturer web site had totally different sizing that was correct. Luckily I found that and got the right size."

Great deal on a solid car replacement

"The Vaast E/1 is solid, in perofrmance and in construction. This thing is a tank - fully built it's over 70 lbs. However, it has been doing a great job getting me out of my car. 150 miles/1 week in now. It's done a great job getting me to the daycare drop offs, work and the daycare pick ups. Adds only 5-10 extra minutes to what I was doing in the car. Pros: -Solid build. Feels stable, handles well. Im used to maneuving tandems around, so this isn't too much different. - Bosch Gen 4 motor / Level 3 pedal assist - mid suspension really smooths out the ride, especiall when going 28 mph - Shimano 12 speed drivetrain. Easy maintenance compared to other models - 4 piston, 2 finger Shimano hydro brakes - Front and rear cargo racks - Fits Thule Yepp rear seat like a glove Cons: - Sizing is kinda funny. They list size S as being suitable for folks under 5' to about 5'4". I'm 5'4" and had to cut the seat post to able to get the seat mast low enough to a comfortable position. Someone under 5' would need to whack off at least 4-5" of seat post. - The stock seat is horrible. Extremely uncomfortable - 170mm crank arms seem too long for size S. Had to add a significant amount of air to the mid-shock to stop pedal scraping on terms. Will be swapping out to some FSA 155mm arms. - Front cargo rack could sit a little lower - Range is fairly limited, esp. if you use a good mix of tour/sport/turbo to keep speeds within 24-28 mph. Max would be about 30 miles till 10% battery. - Front and rear lights. I don't use them as I have more effective, stand alone lights. No need to drain more battery from the system running the built in lights."

This is my first e-bike.

"This is my first e-bike. I picked it for the solid components (Shimano 12-speed Deore) and a steep discount. Despite being discontinued for 2–3 years, the battery was fine, and I’m getting close to the advertised range on low assist. Good stuff: - Comfortable full suspension; both shocks are adjustable. - Comes fully equipped: fenders, two racks, lights, flat pedals. Usually you pay for some of extras. - Great for commuting (mine is 20 miles one way), which I mix with a regular road bike to get easier days with more controlled Zone 2 workouts. Bosch computer syncs with Strava, supports HR straps, and includes a built-in power meter (not sure about accuracy). Not-so good: - Very heavy—hard to lift or flip on the side of the road to fix a flat. I have to look for another bike rack now. - Rack tubing (~20 mm) doesn’t fit standard panniers. - Bosch drivetrain is previous-gen. - The water bottle mounts are installed at the end of the rear rack. If I put a bottle there, I’d have to stop and get off the bike to reach it. I have no idea who thought that was a good idea. - Battery in seat tube requires custom seatpost. That seapost is relatively easy to remove but just as easy to steal. Good luck getting another one. - No dual-battery option despite space in the bottom tube. Overall: It’s a mixed bag. Yes, it has top-tier components, but also some pretty odd design choices. I’m not even touching on warranty or parts availability—I suspect that’ll be another mixed bag depending on what needs fixing."

great cargo bike at a very good sale price

"This bike is awesome! so pleased with the performance and quality, I compare it to the Riese And Muller Supercharger E bike that sells for 10k and I know my bike is as good and saved $6000. 00. Bought mine here at CBO for $4000. 00 for my wife we have the XT/SLX version which in my opinion is easier to service than the other drive-trains offered. Vaast has discontinued this bike and repairs may be an issue if you do not do your own maintenance, no problem here with that since I am a pretty good bike bike mechanic. Finding a competent bike shop to service this bike could be difficult."

Really hard to beat this

"Really hard to beat this bike's value at the sale price when you're getting a full Bosch e-system and Shimano group set. Only docking it a star for the lack of instructions for mounting the rack, fender, and light. . . quite frustrating even for someone who does a ton of bike maintenance."

Q&A

Do you have spare derailleur hangers in stock for this model?
Hello. Unfortunately, we don't carry extra stock of Vaast derailleur hangers for their models of bikes.
I am having difficult time removing battery from my Vaast E/1. I have turned the key various ways with no success. when pushed in a key turn I do hear a click? I do not want to pull to hard on battery handle as I do not want damage.
We are sorry to hear you are having issues with your battery latch. If the latch is stuck it would be recommended to visit a local bike shop for assistance from a skilled mechanic.
