This is an excellent quality

"This is an excellent quality headset. I have purchased higher tier Cane Creek headsets which contain higher quality bearings, but I cannot feel a functional difference between them and the 40 series in actual use. I’ve put thousands of hours on these and never had a problem. I buy Cane Creek 40 series headsets when building from frame up and when replacing a cheaply made headsets on complete bikes. I live in a very dry climate but ride in the rain occasionally and wash my bikes periodically. I have not yet had to replace a bearing in a 40 series headset. The good news is if you do need to replace a bearing, Cane Creek sells them for a reasonable price and you can upgrade to a higher quality bearing at the same time if you want. The crown race that comes with this headset is steel and has a nice single lip rubber seal. When I swap forks on the bike, I don’t like having to remove and reinstall the crown race, so I usually buy another crown race for each fork in my rotation. The Cane Creek 110 series crown races are made of aluminum, have a double lip seal and work fine with 40 series headsets - so I usually buy those. This headset comes with a crown race for a tapered steerer tube like you’ll find on any modern single crown fork. If you have a dual crown fork with a straight steerer, you’ll need a conversion crown race to fit the straight steerer. Those are available in steel (40 series) or aluminum (110 series) from Cane Creek."
