Extra strength where you need it, less material where you don't:
This picture shows a top and side view of our chainring with a chain so you can see how they fit together. Notice that the right side of the tooth is as wide as we can make it to maximize the amount of area in contact. More area in contact means the load is spread over a larger area which in turn minimizes wear on the tooth. The left side of the tooth helps to guide the chain as it meshes with the chainring but it does not have to transmit any load. The left side of the tooth is narrower than the roller pin on the chain. Wear is not a concern on this side of the tooth so we removed extra material to create a channel for mud to flow away. More clearance means less friction and less chance of mud causing a dropped chain.

"So far so good! Chainring was a pain to install but that’s a function of my crank arm/spider design, not the chain ring itself. One note: I believe this is the older tooth profile, meaning not the “drop stop B” which I would have preferred, assuming it’s truly better/updated. That said, this has worked perfectly well over its first ~100 miles, but it’s still very young!"

As long as you select the 104 BCD option in the tooth count you want, it will bolt directly onto your S1000 crank and work perfectly for a 1x drivetrain.
