Wolf Tooth GC 40T Cog (SRAM)

The "1X" paradigm has hit the mountain bike world en masse, causing plenty out there to rethink the idea of hefting around a bulky front derailler, front shifter and extra chainring (or two). Enter Wolf Tooth Components, a manufacturer specializing in retrofitting existing 10 speed drivetrains to be 1x10 compatible, thanks to their super huge chainrings that can be added to the rear cassette.

The process is easy, just take a standard 11-36 tooth, ten speed cassette off the freehub body and remove either the 15 or 17 tooth cog. Then put this replacement cog on first when reinstalling the cassette and you'll be good to go!

Be sure to choose either the SRAM or Shimano options that corresponds with your brand in any of the following levels:

• Shimano: XT 11-36t (CS-M771)
• Shimano: XTR 11-36t (CS-M980)
• Shimano: SLX HG81 11-36t - Modification required (must drill out rivets holding the 17t to the larger cogs)
• SRAM: X5 11-36t (PG-1030)
• SRAM: X7 11-36t (PG-1050)
• SRAM: X9 11-36t (PG-1070)
• SRAM: X0 11-36t(PG - 1080) - Remove the 14t rather than the 17t
